Spin:
Bobby Hamilton Jr. and Team Rensi Motorsports are a model of consistency. Although the team failed to win a race last season, they did qualify for each event last season en route to three top-10 runs. That’s no small feat for a Nationwide-only team competing against a series dominated by Sprint Cup teams and the resources they bring. Finishing solidly in the top 10 in the point standings was a testament to the team’s driver and the pilot’s talent.
And don’t think for a moment that this bunch can’t find success in 2008. Hamilton and Team Rensi paired up from 2002 – ’04 on the Busch tour, compiling five victories and 26 top 5s. They also came within 49 points of capturing the 2003 Busch Series Championship.
Could another title run be in the cards in ’08? While the task is daunting, it is not impossible. The key, however, will be notching a few wins and running in the top 10 against powerhouse teams with more funding. Whether or not this goal is reached, one thing is for sure: Hamilton and Team Rensi will be an exciting underdog to watch throughout the ’08 campaign.
