Steve Wallace is ready to go. After experiencing the highs and lows that accompany a rookie season in one of NASCAR’s touring series, the 20-year-old, second generation driver has some much-needed experience under his belt and, in 2008, has a new feather in his cap. Harold Holly, who led Jeff Green to the 2000 Busch Series championship, has signed on as Wallace’s head wrench and mentor in an effort to get the young sophomore up to speed in the highly competitive Nationwide Series in 2008.
“Rusty Wallace is a legend in our sport, so needless to say, I’m excited about the chance to work with his team,” Holly says. “He has a beautiful facility and is willing to make sure that we have everything we need to win races and contend for championships. Combining all of that with a fast and hungry young driver in Steve Wallace has me really looking forward to Daytona. Steve has shown everyone that he’s got the speed and potential to be a star in our sport and I’m excited about the challenge of taking our teams to the next level.”
In other offseason moves, RWI switched manufacturers, from Dodge to Chevy, and will get engines from the Dale Earnhardt, Inc./Richard Childress Racing engine alliance.
“We’ve totally restructured our organization,” Steve Wallace said. “It’s night and day – just like a light switch, on and off. It’s a lot better feeling when you go into the shop and all the cars are brand new. It’s just a lot better deal there. And with Harold Holly and all the new engineers and new shock guys, we’re going to be a lot faster and a lot more consistent.”
