Many car manufacturers are developing solutions to protect their vehicles’ networks from unauthorised access, including potential cyber-attacks. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) uses a secure gateway module on a selection of their 2017 and newer model vehicles. For these vehicles with the secure gateway module, access to certain diagnostic functions requires registration and authentication through an approved device for all aftermarket scan tools.

With this release, Snap-on introduced its Secure Vehicle Gateway™ solution, to provide direct access to secure OEM vehicle gateway modules. Snap-on and FCA worked closely to develop a solution that uses FCA’s Aftermarket Scan Tool User Management and to allow Wi-Fi enabled diagnostics platforms using current software to perform secure gateway functions.

All FCA secure gateway compliant solutions require device and user registration, which is why Snap-on developed the Snap-on Secure Vehicle Gateway™.  This designed to help navigate through this new process.

Compatible diagnostic tools can connect to secure vehicle gateways seamlessly using a fast, easy and secure channel between you, the scan tool, and the manufacturers’ web sites.

As additional OEMs implement similar network protection technology, the Snap-on Secure Vehicle Gateway will help you manage multiple OEM accounts directly from the tool vehicle network access.
