Security Link™ Provides Access to OEM-Secured Vehicles

Vehicle manufacturers are continually developing solutions to ensure the security of vehicle networks, prevent unauthorised access, and mitigate cyber-attacks. One of these solutions involves implementing security walls (called Secure Gateway) protecting fundamental systems on the vehicle. As a result, aftermarket diagnostic scan tools may require device registration and authentication to access specific functions within secured vehicles.

This led Snap-on to develop Snap-on® Security Link™ (formerly Secured Vehicle Gateway). Security Link™ provides technicians with access to OEM secure gateway functions directly from the scan tool – this includes Ford® 2018 & older and FCA® 2018 & newer vehicles. It is crucial to ensure your scan tool is equipped with the most up-to-date software. By doing so, you can effectively avoid any potential disruptions in accessing the vehicle systems you work on regularly.

Security Link Snap-on

Snap-on collaborated closely with OEMs to create a solution that utilises FCA's and Nissan’s Aftermarket Scan Tool User Management and registration systems. This solution enables Wi-Fi enabled diagnostic platforms with current software to perform security link functions.

To ensure compliance with FCA's and Nissan’s secure gateway standards, all devices and users must register. Security Link™ is specifically designed to assist technicians in navigating this registration process. Compatible diagnostic tools can seamlessly connect to Security Link through a fast, easy, and secure channel between the technician, the scan tool, and OEM websites. As more OEMs adopt similar network protection technology, Snap-on's Security Link becomes invaluable in managing multiple OEM accounts directly through the tool's vehicle network access.
